About The Position

The Dance Instructor is responsible for teaching a variety of dance genres to participants of various ages while maintaining a fun and safe environment at all times. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • One year’s experience of teaching dance classes.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain within ninety days of hire.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Employee possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all the essential duties of the job safely and satisfactorily, including, but not limited to municipal governance, teamwork, problem-solving, relationship-building, customer service, detail oriented, technology/equipment proficiency, policy adherence, time management, result-orientation, research and analyzing data, decision-making, self-motivation, stewardship, integrity, and upholding our EDGE core values.
  • Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.
  • To support consistent high-quality service for our community and each other, it is the expectation of all employees to be punctual and have good attendance and to communicate effectively for scheduling conflicts or when taking leave according to city policy.

  • Bachelor’s degree in dance or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and creates lesson plans for the instruction of dance programs.
  • Understand and demonstrate dance skills in many dance genres and the ability to learn new dance genres
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Relate and interact well with dance participants of all ages.
  • Help plan, organize and implement activities.
  • Provide proper authority to children.
  • Plans and implements recreation dance classes for participants of various ages.
  • Helps organize dance performances throughout the year.
  • Implements proper warm-up and cool-down exercises and strength and endurance-building activities.
  • Provides social interaction within classes and a safe environment for all participants.
  • Tracks participant attendance and instructor hours for all courses
