Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engage in suggestive selling through phone calls, intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one interaction.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer complaints and report to the Store Director when needed.
  • Rotate and remove outdated or spoiled product.
  • Ensure the work area and department remain clean and organized.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and that shelves are clean and well maintained.
  • Assist in other areas of the Grocery Department as needed.
  • Follow and maintain all department standards and requirements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure proper code‑dating practices are applied to all products.
  • Assist with physical inventory (typically every 6 months).
  • Ensure compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑dating requirements.
  • Comply with workplace safety rules and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure sanitation and cleanliness of work areas, coolers, equipment, and display areas.
  • Implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software malfunction.
  • Ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Maintain inventory levels following division directives.
  • Stock and rotate product regularly.
  • Supervise reclamation processing and maintain organized, in‑stock conditions in the back room and all Dairy Department areas (if applicable).
  • Control shrink and departmental costs.
  • Implement correct product preparation techniques.
  • Operate equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Perform receiving duties including: Breaking down loads Verifying invoices Inspecting product quality Reporting shortages Stocking and rotating items
  • Follow proper temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines.
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records.
  • Complete and monitor daily logs, sales and labor records, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure proper temperature levels are maintained for all products.
  • Maintain adherence to food safety practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products.
  • Maintain accuracy and efficiency when using electronic tools and systems.
