Dairy Buyer - Plum Market
About The Position
The Dairy Buyer is responsible for leading the purchasing, inventory management, and merchandising of the Dairy department at Plum Market. This role ensures that the dairy aisle, cold cases, and related displays are consistently full, fresh, and aligned with retail Customer expectations. The Dairy Buyer monitors sales trends, maintains pricing accuracy, and works to optimize product selection and inventory levels. They are accountable for meeting purchase budgets, margin goals, and shrink control, all while delivering exceptional retail Customer Service and maintaining departmental standards.
Requirements
- 6+ months experience in a retail grocery, buying, or dairy-related role.
- Working knowledge of dairy, frozen, and dry grocery product categories.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Apps and the ability to adapt and learn new software solutions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break – we work on the floor, and alongside our team.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb ladders, lift to 50 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted.
Responsibilities
- Purchase and maintain inventory for all dairy categories, ensuring consistent in-stock position and proper rotation.
- Track department performance, optimize product mix, and make adjustments to improve sales, margin, and shrink control.
- Maintain accurate pricing and signage across all dairy displays.
- Build and reset cold case merchandising plans in coordination with store promotions and seasonal initiatives.
- Keep purchase journals and order systems current and accurate.
- Fulfill Customer special orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicate new products and category updates to Team Members and Leadership.
- Collaborate with vendors to manage deliveries, support promotions, and resolve discrepancies.
- Uphold all Plum Market food safety, sanitation, and operational standards.
