About The Position

The Camp Director of CYO Camp Carlo must deliver on its mission through the planning, development, coordination, execution, and supervision of all aspects of Camp Carlo’s operations, reporting directly to the Executive Director of CYO.

Requirements

The Director of Camp Carlo will have an appropriate background of education (bachelor’s degree preferred) and experience in Catholic camp development, operations, programming, and oversight.
Must have training and experience in teaching youth and working with young adults.
Must have the ability to relate to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
To properly support and interpret the mission and values of the camp, the incumbent must be a person of strong personal faith, and a practicing Roman Catholic, committed to living as a disciple of Jesus Christ with a desire to further the vision of the Catholic Youth Organization, the Archdiocese of Detroit and Unleash the Gospel through the ministry of Camp Carlo.
The human relations aspect of this position is very important.
The personality, attitude, and conduct of the Camp Director sets the climate of relationships.
The incumbent’s skill in connecting individuals and groups to each other determines the eventual success of the summer camp program.
A person in this position must have excellent organizational skills, be very resourceful and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deliver summer camp programming aligned with the vision for the Archdiocese of Detroit and CYO Camp Carlo.
Create appropriate, appealing, formative and fun summer camp programming and ensure it is implemented effectively.
Remain current with best practices of a well-functioning Catholic summer camp.
Ensure that all safety requirements are followed and all necessary permits and licenses are obtained.
Develop and implement proper risk management strategies.
Develop and implement proper crisis management protocols.
Develop and oversee the registration process.
In collaboration with CYO’s Executive Director, oversee the financial management of Camp Carlo.
Develop and monitor an appropriate and balanced budget.
Develop long-term financial projections and carry out fundraising strategies to ensure the financial stability of Camp Carlo.
Recruit and retain appropriate staffing to meet the demands of developed programming.
Ensure that high-quality staff members are recruited and trained to successfully execute programming.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Camp Carlo staff members.
Oversee the daily operations of summer camp including aspects of safety, programming, business, food service, camper and staff supervision, and health care.
Develop creative, fun, and Christ-centered summer camp programming that furthers the mission of Camp Carlo.
Ensure compliance with all Archdiocesan, local, and State requirements.
Ensure that prudent stewardship of resources is exercised in all areas of camp operations.
Represent Camp Carlo and its interests with donors, within the Archdiocese, and the public.
Communicate effectively to promote the interests of Camp Carlo.
Develop relationships with parishes and schools within the Archdiocese to promote the ministry of Camp Carlo.
Manage the property and maintenance needs of Camp Carlo.
Oversee and perform regular construction and maintenance projects at the Camp Carlo property.
Conduct regular assessment of facility needs and develop a long-range maintenance plan.
Ensure that the property is adequately prepared for use and the off-season.
