About The Position

The Office of Catholic Schools, located at 197 E. Gay Street in Columbus, is seeking a CYO Assistant Director to start as soon as possible. Job Description Basic Functions: Utilize CYO sports as a vehicle for discipleship and evangelization while providing athletic competition for the youth of the Diocese of Columbus with the goal of building a Christian culture in all diocesan athletic programs. Implement the diocesan CYO Athletic Program with primary responsibilities of governance, program, and financial administration, staff supervision and leadership, and building effective partnerships with Member Organizations according to the CYO Charter and Bylaws and diocesan policies. With direction, ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Diocese of Columbus. Provide an opportunity for as many eligible young people as possible to experience spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional growth through participation in CYO.

Requirements

  • Combination of education and experience normally represented by a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management or related field.
  • 2–3 years of experience in athletics or related areas preferred.
  • 1–2 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Must have strong administrative and systems building skills to operate a mission-based diocesan program.
  • Must have a working knowledge of athletic operations, rules, and regulations.
  • Must have strong people skills to relate with a wide variety of persons, both professional and volunteers as well as organizations and systems.
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage concurrent and varying responsibilities in an organized and effective manner.
  • Must have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have well-developed conflict management skills.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and have the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good working knowledge of computers, relevant athletic software, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Reliable means of transportation for local travel throughout the Diocese of Columbus.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Catholic Church, including parish, school, and diocesan structures.
  • Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted and to complete background check.

Responsibilities

  • Be available on most weekends to visit multiple sites and observe contests to ensure venues and programs are running efficiently.
  • Ensure the CYO website i s the destination for Athletic Directors, Coaches, and Parents; connect the CYO website to the diocesan website in an integrated manner to strengthen the mission and faith connection.
  • Maintain a diocesan-level online team registration system that integrates with member-level registration, facilitates seamless data transfers, and interacts with scheduling software to schedule games and sites electronically and publish at set dates on website Facilitate electronic transfer of registrations across sports seasons and from year to year.
  • Oversee parish mergers to ensure ethical practices and opportunities for all participants.
  • Use the Incident Management System to address and resolve athletic incidents according to athletic administration best practices and the policies of the Diocese of Columbus.
  • Manage a formal communication system with athletic Member Organizations.
  • Assist in regularly evaluating fee structures schedules to support a healthy budget while seeking opportunities to streamline processes.
  • Maintain effective athletic program operations according to identified standards, goals, and outcomes.
  • Assist in the supervision diocesan athletic programs and staff in accordance to diocesan Human Resources policies.
  • Assist in annually evaluating administrative procedures for CYO athletic programs.
  • Provide consultation and resources to all Member Organizations (incident reports, assessments, training).
  • Recommend, purchase, and organize athletic program supplies and inventory as necessary.
  • Escalate large issues to the Director of Athletics for guidance.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to further the diocesan mission to achieve athletic program objectives.
