We combine a "small company" culture where your ideas will be heard with "big company" expertise to help you succeed. With over 30 specialty and property and casualty operations, there are always opportunities here to learn and grow. At Great American, we value and recognize the benefits derived when people with different backgrounds and experiences work together to achieve business results. Our goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel included, empowered, and enabled to perform at their best. The Cyber Risk Division of Great American Insurance Group is continuing to expand. For more than a decade, Great American delivered customized cyber risk products and programs via numerous divisions and built a reputation for providing flexible offerings in combination with other products or on a stand-alone basis. In 2018, the Cyber Risk Division was formally organized by consolidating those various products and programs into one specialty business unit. We are proud to carry on the tradition of supporting other divisions’ cyber needs while at the same time expanding our presence and product offerings in the primary, excess, and programs marketplace. We are currently searching for an early career underwriter to support our Open Brokerage distribution channel. These individuals will participate in our Underwriter Development Program during their first 8 weeks of employment. This Program provides a unique learning opportunity where you will spend the first several months training with a variety of subject matter experts in areas of property and casualty insurance. This training will include a broad range of topics from claims, insurance operations, products, and underwriting to help you kickstart your insurance career. Great American’s unique company structure of 30+ business units writing niche risks and lines of business provides candidates an opportunity for a broad-based underwriter training program. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs. Underwriter Development Program In our Underwriter Development Program, participants will develop the fundamental skills required of a commercial insurance underwriter. Participants will learn to review and evaluate risks and exposures for various types of commercial risks. They will work closely with experienced underwriters, managers, and line of business experts to learn underwriting and leadership skills. The Program includes hands-on underwriting of various specialty niche exposures, aimed at giving the participant an understanding of the underwriting discipline. A strong interest in continual learning is required as participants will continue to build industry knowledge and keep pace with the constantly evolving insurance industry. After two months of full-time training, the participants will transition to the Cyber Risk Division. Products include primary and excess cyber risk insurance and technology errors and omissions. Participants will develop skills in evaluating Applicant network security posture and determining the extent of coverage eligibility. Emphasis will be placed on building relationships with a growing network of local, regional, and national agents and brokers.
