The primary responsibility of the Cutoff Operator is to set up and operate cutoff equipment to ensure steel tubing is produced at precise lengths with minimal burr or scarf. This position requires attention to detail, including checking the pipe for dents, scratches, and other surface imperfections, as well as inspecting both the inside and outside of the pipe. The Cutoff Operator will also assist with setup tasks such as adjusting tape measures, changing out tools for different cuts (including bevel and square), and supporting quality inspection by cutting samples for review. The position involves logging shift reports and scrap data, as well as performing changeovers, such as swapping clamps or tools, based on the production requirements. The Cutoff Operator will work closely with the lead to follow production orders and ensure quality standards are met consistently, including managing scrap rates and ensuring the correct length of pipe is produced.
