About The Position

We are seeking a Customs Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will ensure compliance with customs regulations and maintain accurate import/export documentation for the company and its subsidiaries. Your attention to detail and knowledge of international trade regulations will help us ensure seamless and compliant cross-border operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, International Business, Logistics, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Import Specialist (CIS), U.S. Customs Broker License highly desirable.
  • Experience in global sourcing, trade compliance, or customs operations, preferably within a multinational environment.
  • Strong understanding of tariffs, trade agreements (such as USMCA), and customs regulations in the USA and Canada.
  • Proficiency in managing customs documentation, tariff protests, and post-entry corrections.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Canadian tariff drawback processes and customs brokerage relationship management is a plus.
  • Automotive industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Report Access and Retrieval: Access and retrieve customs reports from the ACES US Customs and Border Patrol portal and the CARM Canadian Customs and Border Patrol portal to support comprehensive oversight and management of customs operations in both countries.
  • Import and Export Audit Processes: Conduct weekly audits of import and export reports to ensure billing accuracy, prevent unnecessary expenses, and promptly address charge discrepancies.
  • HTS Code Review and Optimization: Regularly audit and verify Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for U.S. imports, optimize tariff code selection for cost savings, and ensure compliance for new products.
  • Tariff Compliance and Exemptions: Monitor compliance with chapter 9903 tariffs, manage stacking and exemption processes, review Section 232 tariff applicability, and stay updated on IEEPA and Section 301 tariff regulations. Communicate risks and regulatory changes to stakeholders.
  • HTS File Management: Maintain and update master HTS files for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) with US Customs and Border Protection, ensuring data accuracy and seamless system integration.
  • Commercial Invoice Accuracy and Optimization: Review all invoice details for accuracy, including product descriptions, values, tariff designations, exemptions, and HTS code assignments to ensure compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Financial and Billing Insight: Provide the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with timely and accurate insights on tariff-related costs in the US and Canada to inform financial planning and management.
  • Product and Tariff Review: Audit new products for correct HTS code assignment and monitor dynamic tariff changes, keeping stakeholders informed of regulatory updates.
  • Global Resourcing Support: Define optimal regional tariffs to enable strategic sourcing decisions and secure cost efficiencies for the organization.
  • Tariff Disputes and Protests: Identify and dispute overcharges or incorrect tariff assessments, file post-entry corrections, and maintain precise records to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
  • USMCA Data Management: Manage USMCA data and provide annual USMCA Certificates to support regulatory compliance and facilitate cross-border operations.
  • Canadian Tariff Drawback: Plan and execute annual Canadian tariff drawback processes to recover eligible duties and optimize cost savings.
  • Customs Brokerage Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with customs brokerage partners to ensure efficient and compliant customs clearance.
