About The Position

This is a full-time, non-exempt position responsible for performing clerical tasks to support the preparation and certification of a county-wide tax roll. The role involves close supervision and is subject to regular performance reviews and evaluations. Essential Functions: An employee in this position may be required to perform any or all of the following duties. These examples are not exhaustive, and additional tasks may be assigned. To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. All necessary training will be provided.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and mathematics.
  • Strong phone communication skills and active listening abilities.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Capability to meet departmental deadlines and manage tasks within a set time frame.
  • Ability to learn clerical tasks quickly and adhere to prescribed routines.
  • Strong multitasking, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in processing work through various software applications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the public, county office staff, and coworkers.
  • Proficient in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with modern office equipment, such as phones, computers, calculators, copy machines, and scanners.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of one year of clerical or administrative experience required

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service by offering general and specific information about property exemptions and related topics.
  • Assess eligibility for property tax exemptions, review and process exemption applications, and manage denials using a computerized system accurately and efficiently.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and other County agencies via phone, email, and in person in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Manage high volumes of incoming calls, providing accurate, complete, and valid information while using the appropriate tools and methods, and direct calls to the appropriate departments as needed.
  • Address questions regarding departmental forms, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to homestead exemptions and other property exemptions.
  • Retrieve requested information and maintain accurate records.
  • Identify and address public needs effectively, offering assistance in a professional manner to promote positive customer experiences.
  • Follow communication guidelines and procedures, clearly expressing ideas both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain composure and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Investigate homestead parcels to verify exemption eligibility.
  • Accurately perform mathematical computations involving percentages.
  • Perform administrative tasks electronically including mass mailings, scanning, filing, and photocopying.
  • Operate modern office equipment and software applications effectively.
  • Provide customer service at community outreach events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
