About The Position

The Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Customer Service Representative within its Finance Department. The ideal candidate will model customer service best practices, offering friendly, courteous, and efficient service to ensure a high-quality customer experience. This role involves participating in the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department’s Customer Service Division, with significant interaction with the general public. The position provides counter service and general office support, handles the Village’s main telephone line, and routes calls or provides information. It also includes responding to inquiries, managing incoming and outgoing mail, processing various payments (utilities, citations, taxes, receivables), balancing cash drawers, preparing bank deposits, reviewing revenue collection batches, entering escrow payments, performing miscellaneous billings, processing bills for payment, issuing real estate transfer stamps, responding to FOIA requests, tracking tax submittals, and performing data entry and electronic filing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Excellent public service skills
  • At least 1 year of direct customer service experience

Responsibilities

  • Models customer service best practices that include offering friendly, courteous and efficient service in the delivery of a high quality customer experience
  • Participates in the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department’s Customer Service Division
  • Has considerable contact with the general public
  • Provides counter service and general office support
  • Answers Village’s main telephone line and routes calls to appropriate individuals and/or departments, or provides information and assistance
  • Responds to verbal and written inquiries and correspondence
  • Sorts incoming mail and processes outgoing mail for all departments
  • Processes payments for utilities, citations, municipal taxes, and miscellaneous receivables
  • Balances cash drawers and prepares bank deposits
  • Reviews and approves revenue collections batches for all departments
  • Enters escrow payments
  • Performs miscellaneous billings
  • Processes bills for payment
  • Issues real estate transfer stamps
  • Responds to FOIA requests
  • Tracks tax submittals
  • Performs data entry and electronic filing
