About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is now inviting applications for multiple Custodian positions within Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH). We are looking for dedicated and compassionate professionals to join our team! POSITION HIGHLIGHTS: HOURS: Full-Time and/or Part-Time SHIFTS: First and/or Second DIVISION: Addiction Services Division (ASD) and/or General Psychiatry Division (GDP) UNIT: Housekeeping ADDRESS: 1000 Silver Street, Middletown, CT PCNS: 126121; 126277; 145433;145437; 145608; 145609;145611; 145612; anticipated 136856 Hours Shift Vacancies Schedule 16 Hours (Part Time) First Shift 2 6:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M., Saturday & Sunday 20 Hours (Part Time) First Shift 2 6:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M., Saturday & Sunday 22 Hours (Part Time) First Shift 1 7:00 A.M. - 6:30 P.M., Saturday & Sunday 24 Hours (Part Time) First Shift 1 8:00 A.M. - 8:30 P.M., Saturday and Sunday 32 Hours (Part Time) Second Shift 2 3:00 P.M. - 10 P.M., Monday, Friday & 3:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 37.5 Hours (Full Time) Second Shift 1 3:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M., Monday - Friday Some positions are eligible for shift and/or weekend differential. The 16 hour per week positions are not benefits eligible.

Nice To Haves

  • Custodial experience in a psychiatric or hospital environment.
  • Experience with terminal and bonnet cleaning.
  • Experience with floor buffers, stripping machines, carpet cleaners, and power washers.
  • Experience with infection prevention/control cleaning procedures.
  • Experience with keeping cleaning supplies safe while working around others.
  • Experience moving furniture.
  • Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways.
  • Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial tasks and maintenance of areas such as dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms and lavatories including outdoor areas (i.e. trash around buildings)
  • Dusts, mops, sweeps, scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers
  • Washes, dusts and polishes glass including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and metal equipment
  • Makes beds
  • Checks, marks, stores and issues linens, blankets, and clothing (limited to individual's work area not to include counting and inspection for a larger area)
  • Collects and counts soiled laundry
  • Distributes, empties and sterilizes glassware, wash basins and bedpans
  • Sweeps walks
  • Collects and disposes of trash
  • Reports needs for repairs
  • Performs minor maintenance
  • Runs errands
  • Inspects buildings for damage and reports conditions to supervisor
  • May change light bulbs and replace fuses
  • May lubricate or tighten door hinges, drawers, cabinets, etc.
  • May replace ceiling or floor tiles
  • May remove snow and ice from stairways and walkways around buildings
  • May sand and salt stairways and walkways
  • May move furniture and/or set-up classrooms
  • Performs related duties as required
