About The Position

Madison County CCE is seeking a part-time temporary custodian to provide cleaning and maintenance services for the CCE Madison County Association buildings. The role involves regular cleaning tasks such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping floors, as well as emptying waste receptacles and managing recyclable materials. The custodian will also be responsible for maintaining restroom and kitchen facilities, washing walls, windows, and sills, and performing simple carpentry and painting to keep the building in good condition. Outdoor duties include sweeping/shoveling snow from stairs and walks, keeping entrances clean, and potentially lawn care. The position requires compliance with all OSHA/PESHA safety regulations. This is a part-time role, requiring 10-15 hours per week, with a pay rate of $17-$18 per hour.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent Education
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Ability to clearly communicate and to read and write in English
  • Basic Computer Skills including use of e-mail and computer-based time collection
  • Physical ability to do heavy lifting (able to lift and carry 50 pounds), to shovel snow, carry supplies and equipment
  • Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder
  • Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work
  • Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings
  • Ability to work independently and to complete work within a reasonable time frame
  • Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the work place
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers
  • Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff as pertains to the duties of the job
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity

Responsibilities

  • Provide custodian service for CCE Madison County Association buildings
  • Clean, dust, polish, vacuum, wet mop, sweep, and maintain floors on a regular basis
  • Empty/clean all waste receptacles, remove trash and recyclable materials
  • Use and maintain assigned equipment and hand tools while ensuring storage rooms are orderly and neat
  • Ensure restroom and kitchen facilities are clean, orderly, and supplied with sufficient paper products
  • Wash walls, windows, and sills on a regular basis
  • Paint rooms and simple carpentry to keep building in shape
  • Sweep/shovel snow from stair/walks to building; keep entrances clean from debris
  • Lawn care may be included
  • Comply with established health and safety regulations and guidelines including OSHA/PESHA regulations
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies
  • Record use and storage of all chemicals and cleaners utilized in MSDS record book as required
  • Interact with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Perform a substantial amount of routine, non-complex tasks to support the facilities administration of the Association
  • Perform landscape and road/sidewalk maintenance such as: mow grass as directed, maintain shrubbery and area around shrubs, weeding, fertilizing, rolling, etc.
  • Shovel and salt building entrances, parking lots, etc.
  • Operate small hand/motor equipment (push lawn mower, weed eater, shovel, etc.) and large motor equipment (tractor)
  • Clean and maintain all rooms/entrances/hallways/common areas of all buildings on a daily, weekly or monthly basis as directed
  • Empty waste baskets/trash
  • Clean washroom facilities and replacing lavatory supplies
  • Mopping/sweeping/waxing/vacuuming
  • Keep storage areas free of fire hazards and debris
  • Clean entrance rugs
  • Clean windows/doors
  • Dusting window sills, cabinets, other furniture, and shelves
  • Assist with maintaining security of buildings and grounds (opening, closing and locking doors, etc.)
  • Assist in the minor troubleshooting and scheduling of routine maintenance/inspections of tractor and equipment as directed
  • Replace bulbs and/or ballasts of interior/exterior lighting when necessary, keep light fixtures clean
  • Perform routine maintenance of building(s) mechanical equipment, including furnaces, air conditioners, ice machine, refrigeration units, etc.
  • Maintain a log of activities and duties performed on vehicles/equipment and any other forms, paperwork, records, etc. as assigned
  • Assist with the storage and removal from storage of boats, cars, and recreational vehicles as directed
  • Set up and clean-up for events and meetings according to schedule and as directed, including emptying trash, cleaning restrooms and restocking supplies, sweeping/cleaning/mopping/vacuuming/waxing floors
  • Assist with off-site County fair set up and tear down; manage trash/debris removal
