About The Position

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Custodian I in our Engineering Department. Responsibilities: Cleans the interior of City buildings and Jail which includes vacuuming floors, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash cans, cleaning office and conference rooms, mopping floors, washing windows, cleaning jail cells, and cleaning doors and walls. Performs general building maintenance duties such as fixing lights, dealing with plumbing problems, and assisting with lifting boxes and other moving duties. Utilizes various equipment and machinery such as buffer, vacuum cleaner, and various cleaning supplies and chemicals. Performs numerous tasks and duties to maintain the floors such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, cleaning carpets, buffing, waxing, etc. Empties garbage and trash containers on a regular basis; keeps containers clean and sanitary. Maintains the cleanliness of walls, windows, and furniture as needed by washing, dusting, waxing, or buffing. Maintain general maintenance of City buildings including council chambers to include tables, chairs, and floors. Maintains the restrooms in a clean and sanitary manner to promote hygiene; replaces soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, etc. as necessary. Communicates verbal and written information with immediate supervisor and the public to provide assistance, receiving instructions, exchange information, and complete daily job-related activities. Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment in the performance of job including brooms, mops, cleaners, buffers, keys, disinfectants, insecticides, vacuums, carpet cleaners, scrubbers, etc. Runs errands as needed. Performs other related duties as required. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs general administrative tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, filing records, and answering phones. Participates in required training and continuing education to obtain and maintain certifications and stay current on changes in codes and ordinances. Assists other officers and staff when workload, emergencies, or special assignments require. Stays current on departmental policies, procedures, and processes. Completes work accurately, safely, and efficiently; maintains assigned equipment in good working condition. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area. Identifies and reports suggested improvements or areas of concern to the Supervisor. Ensures professionalism and excellent customer service in all interactions while representing the City of Greer. Demonstrates strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability with coworkers, customers, and the community. Supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration within the department and across the organization. Represents the department at community events or meetings when requested by the Supervisor. Adheres to the Employee Handbook and all applicable policies and procedures. Maintains regular, reliable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with some experience in custodial or maintenance duties or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
