About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Custodial Services Program Supervisor, the 1st shift Custodial Services Supervisor plays a key role in supporting FP&M’s commitment to high‑quality service by supervising and providing direction for the custodial lead floor technicians and custodians of a first shift crew. This position establishes custodial goals, identifies the tasks needed to meet them, and executes work plans that contribute to a well‑maintained campus environment. This role conducts work inspections, provides training and coaching on proper cleaning methods, and ensures the safe and effective operation of all equipment. Responsibilities also include removing equipment from service when necessary, arranging repairs, ordering supplies, and performing custodial duties such as operating floor care machines, completing general cleaning tasks, and assisting with snow removal. The first shift Custodial Services Supervisor position is responsible for triaging and managing the response to urgent custodial work orders received during their normal scheduled shift and after hours when another crew is not present. The responsibilities also expand beyond the traditional crew run scope to include specialized planned asset care for all maintained campus facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in custodial work or two years of experience supervising others (in any field).
  • Driver's license in accordance with UW-Risk Management requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or lead experience, including creating schedules and coordinating daily and weekly workflow.
  • Experienced with robotic cleaning equipment, including maintenance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with facility managers and provide excellent customer service.
  • Experience in the hiring, suspending, promoting, managing of employee conduct and disciplinary process.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of digital tools, computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office) and workplace systems (e.g. Workday)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of cleaning equipment, ensuring it is operational, properly cleaned, and that maintenance needs are reported in a timely manner
  • Develops, implements, and schedules operational work plans of staff for one or multiple projects or work units
  • Control of proper inventory of supplies to ensure adequate supplies and expiration dates
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Implements the use of and provides training for new supplies/equipment to ensure adequate utilization
  • Identifies work unit resource needs, manages workflow components, schedules logistics and secures resources for the completion of established projects by internal and external entities
  • Identifies, develops and implements facility emergency and hazardous response policies and procedures to align with institutional safety rules and regulations
  • Customer Service- Communicates effectively with customers regularly
