About The Position

The Housing and Residence Life Custodial Services Superintendent oversees the University of North Florida Housing custodial operations, including supervising staff and contractors, maintaining equipment and supply inventories, and ensuring all personnel and cleaning standards are met. The position manages, and may participate in, the 24‑hour on‑call process, responding to emergencies or major campus events, and ensuring completion and documentation of all custodial work. Additionally, this position serves as the primary Housing and Residence Life liaison to custodial contractors, assisting with scope development, performance adjustments, and invoice verification and submission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • This position is designated as a Tier 2 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events. In this event of a declared campus emergency, the position incumbent will make every effort to return to campus when directed.
  • This position requires a background check.
  • In conjunction with the University's policy, this position may also require a credit check.
  • The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee” pursuant to their role under Title IX. Therefore, the incumbent must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the cleaning of the residential facilities and related quality control and inspections.
  • Arranges and oversees use of Custodial Contractor services for cleaning of Housing Areas for general term cleaning, term transition cleaning, and all other cleaning needs as necessary.
  • Assigns custodial duties and distribution of custodial workload.
  • Conducts inspections regularly on a varying schedule to ensure levels of cleanliness and to reduce complaints.
  • Ensures all work completed meets or exceeds the expectations of the Housing & Residence Life Department.
  • Follows up on employees and contractor's performance to ensure peak productivity.
  • Assists in the development of work standards and operating policies and recommends procedure changes to improve work efficiencies and outcomes, and sustainable facility improvements.
  • Monitors all residential areas and recommends custodial projects to the Associate Director of Facilities Management to maintain a safe and comfortable residential environment.
  • Reports any noted deficiencies in the residential facilities to the Maintenance Superintendent, Grounds Superintendent, or Associate Director.
  • Conducts and participates in hands-on & classroom training of custodial staff in the proper use of cleaning products and safe and sanitary cleaning procedures and the proper use and maintenance of custodial equipment.
  • Supervision of, and participation in, the preparation for special events and summer camp cleaning requirements.
  • Ensures all applicable safety practices and regulations are followed.
  • Maintains all custodial supply par levels and ensures custodial equipment is properly maintained.
  • May submit supply and equipment requisitions to the Associate Director of Facilities to replenish supply levels and to affect the repair or purchase of custodial equipment.
  • Monitors and ensures all custodial storage areas, closets and supply carts are clean, well organized and maintained, and verifies that only approved cleaning products are used in properly labeled issued containers
  • Conducts informal, impromptu production reviews to ensure peak production of all facilities staff and reports deficiencies as warranted; and performs other related work as assigned.
  • Provides management reports to the Associate Director as required.
