About The Position

The objective of the Curriculum Specialist is to provide support for the literacy-based Education programs, such as Raven Writes: Expanding Culturally Responsive Writing Instruction Throughout Southeast Alaska, which is administered through the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) in partnership with districts throughout Southeast Alaska and SERRC. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workloads.

  • 3 years of administrative experience or equivalent office experience.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Cultural Specialist, contractors, and other team members to ensure curricula across literacy-based education programs align with state standards, research-based best practices, and embeds Indigenous ways of knowing and doing.
  • Collaborates with Language Specialists and Cultural Specialists to produce a Haida and Tsimshian version of the Raven Writes curriculum.
  • Collaborates with and guides teachers and Cultural Specialists to develop shared experiences in the Raven Writes curriculum for each of the unique Southeast communities served.
  • Creates and oversees appropriate workflow tracking systems during Raven Writes curriculum review and publication processes.
  • Works in partnership with the publication team to review, copy edit, and prepare modified versions of the Raven Writes curriculum documents.
  • Supports the traveling coaches in working with teachers to implement the Raven Writes curriculum across the unique communities in Southeast.
  • Supports coaches in the action-based research project. This may include scoring assessments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in developing further action plans.
  • Coordinates and oversees professional development opportunities and teacher training workshops.
  • Works with a team to develop culturally-relevant writing lessons for the Raven Writes Camps.
  • Maintains documentation of people served and other necessary data collection for reporting purposes
  • Schedules and organizes complex activities, such as meetings, workshops, and department activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
