SHI - Cultural Interpreter
About The Position
The position is responsible for providing cultural interpretation and guidance to visitors to the Walter Soboleff Building.Duties/Responsibilities Greet visitors to the Walter Soboleff Building and provide guided tours of the Exhibits and the lobby/house front. After extensive in-house training on Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian culture and traditions, provide cultural interpretation and guidance to visitors. Answer questions of visitors. Ensure visitors adhere to building and exhibit rules regarding food and drink. Guide visitors through exhibits, explaining history and culture of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people as related to three interactive exhibits and Celebration juried art show. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills
- High degree of initiative
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Student in good standing of a local school district; or High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of college
Nice To Haves
- Experience in public speaking and assisting the public
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
