About The Position

The Culinary Camp Chef will prepare a curriculum with recipes and culinary instruction for each week of Culinary Camp using the theme. The curriculum will be designed for youth entering 3rd – 6th grade, to develop culinary skills and have fun. The Culinary Camp Chef will use safe food handling practices as well as Kosher guidelines and practices. Schedule 25-30 hours per week June 8 - July 31, plus a week of orientation May 26-29. Works primarily morning hours M-F (8:15am-1pm), campers in session from 9-12 daily. Plus additional prep, clean-up and shopping.

Requirements

  • Proven skills in the Culinary arts, cooking, baking skills and safe food handling education
  • Ability to plan, carry out and implement a Culinary Camp program for youth 3rd-6th grade
  • Ability to work under Vaad rules to follow Kosher food guidelines and practices (this will be taught on the job)
  • Able to lift 40 pounds
  • Able to work around children with a variety of needs and abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Education and experience in teaching Culinary Skills is preferred
  • Experience working with children in teaching Culinary Skills is preferred
  • Prior experience supervising/leading others is helpful

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the supervision, planning and implementation of the Culinary Camp program.
  • Supervise and support staff assigned to Culinary Camp.
  • Assure that kitchen and equipment are left clean following use.
  • Determine food, supplies and equipment needed to carry out weekly culinary projects.
  • Purchase supplies or request a week in advance in order for them to be available in time for the Culinary Camp Sessions.
  • Teach culinary skills to youth.
  • Provide instruction that allows children to participate as fully as possible in all aspects of the cooking projects – from prep to clean up.
  • Work with Camp Counselors to support youth in having fun with games and other activities while waiting.
  • Lead the Culinary Camp Schedule, coordinating morning preparations, culinary skill sessions, clean up and when applicable, the packaging of foods for children to take home.
