About The Position

Alloy Partners is a venture builder with a radical thesis: that we can build and scale advantaged companies in partnership with corporations and entrepreneurs. Alloy Partners and the University of Notre Dame partnered to establish a first-of-its-kind venture studio (the 1842 Studio) and venture fund (the 1842 Fund) that aligns with Notre Dame’s mission of serving as a “Force for Good” in the world. In close partnership with the University and its vast “ND Family” of alumni, corporate, community, and academic leaders, the 1842 Studio aims to co-create startups that address important societal challenges, such as improving health access and outcomes for our most vulnerable populations. We are seeking a CTO & Co-Founder to own StealthCo’s technical vision, architecture, and execution from MVP through scale. This is a rare opportunity to build a category-defining healthcare AI platform from the ground up, working closely with a world-class clinical partner and shaping the long-term product, data, and AI strategy of the company. StealthCo is an AI-powered recovery and discharge platform addressing the hospital capacity crisis by helping patients recover faster and care teams work more efficiently. Using ambient listening and AI, StealthCo captures patient - care team conversations and translates them into personalized recovery tasks, goals, and guidance for patients and caregivers, while giving care teams real-time visibility without adding work. StealthCo is building its MVP in partnership with a top medical academic center, with the goal of validating measurable reductions in length of stay, improved patient experience, and reduced care team burden. As CTO & Co-Founder, you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling StealthCo’s technology platform, while serving as a strategic partner to the CEO. You will lead all technical decisions across application architecture, AI/ML systems, integrations, security, and compliance, initially as a hands-on builder, and over time as a technical leader who hires and mentors a world-class team This role is ideal for a builder who thrives at the intersection of AI/ML, healthcare systems, and real-world product delivery, and who wants true co-founder ownership.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience building and shipping production software, including early-stage or zero-to-one products. Experience building patient facing applications is preferred.
  • Strong full-stack engineering background (frontend + backend).
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML systems in production, including LLMs, NLP, or speech-to-text pipelines.
  • Experience designing scalable cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience building mobile applications (iOS and Android)
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving startup environments.
  • Deep ownership mindset—you build it, you run it, you fix it.
  • Experience in healthcare technology, digital health, or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI handling, and enterprise healthcare security requirements.
  • Experience integrating with hospital systems, devices, or clinical workflows, including experience integrating software products with hospital EHRs.
  • Prior founder or early-stage startup leadership experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building PWAs, real-time audio applications, or conversational AI products.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Strategy & Architecture
  • Define and own StealthCo’s end-to-end technical architecture, including:
  • Patient and care team applications (likely PWA-first)
  • Ambient listening and speech-to-text pipelines
  • AI/ML systems for task extraction, summarization, and conversational AI
  • Data storage, deployment, and retention strategies aligned with health system requirements
  • Make pragmatic build vs. buy decisions (e.g., Whisper/Azure, LLMs, NLP tooling, vendors).
  • Design for device-agnostic use across smartphones, tablets, and in-room hospital displays.
  • Establish a scalable foundation that can evolve from MVP to enterprise deployments across health systems.
  • Hands-On MVP Execution
  • Personally build and ship large portions of the MVP during the Design Partnership Build phase.
  • Implement real-time or near-real-time ambient audio capture, transcription, and summarization.
  • Build text-to-text pipelines that convert transcripts into patient recovery tasks and insights.
  • Support early integrations with Design Partner’s infrastructure and EHR (e.g., in-room displays, Epic, ambient listening hardware like Hellocare).
  • Ensure the MVP can reliably measure product and outcome metrics (e.g., LOS reduction, activation rates).
  • AI/ML & Applied Intelligence
  • Architect the AI stack, including:
  • Speech-to-text ingestion
  • Task extraction and goal linkage using LLMs and medical NLP
  • Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) grounded in health-system-approved content
  • Design guardrails, prompt strategies, and evaluation frameworks to ensure safe, reliable, patient-facing AI.
  • Plan for future AI capabilities such as predictive discharge readiness, readmission risk, and care team AI agents.
  • Healthcare Compliance, Privacy & Security
  • Own HIPAA-compliant system design across data collection, storage, transmission, and access.
  • Implement patient consent flows for ambient listening and AI use.
  • Define data de-identification, access controls, audit logging, and retention policies.
  • Lay the groundwork for SOC 2 compliance and enterprise security reviews.
  • Navigate health system preferences around data sovereignty and cloud deployment.
  • Cross-Functional & External Leadership
  • Partner closely with the CEO on product strategy, roadmap, and investor discussions.
  • Serve as the primary technical counterpart to Design Partner’s IT, innovation, and data stakeholders.
  • Translate clinical and operational needs into technical requirements and solutions.
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team & Company Building
  • Hire and lead StealthCos initial engineering and ML team over time.
  • Establish engineering culture, development practices, and quality standards.
  • Contribute as a true co-founder to company strategy, fundraising, and long-term vision.
