About The Position

The CTE Technology Instructor provides instruction in foundational and emerging technology skills to youth residing in a juvenile detention center. This role focuses on equipping students with practical, workforce-aligned competencies, including digital literacy, digital citizenship, keyboarding, basic computer operations, and introductory concepts in artificial intelligence (AI). The instructor designs and delivers instruction that leads to industry-recognized microcredentials, preparing students for successful reentry into school, training programs, or employment. The role requires flexibility and adaptability in planning and delivering instructional strategies to meet scholars' needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in education or subject field (strongly preferred), or 3 to 5 years industry experience in lieu of degree
  • Must have or be eligible for initial certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area (must obtain initial certification within 1 year of employment)
  • Experience teaching technology or digital literacy

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction in digital literacy, keyboarding, productivity tools, digital citizenship, and AI basics.
  • Adapt curriculum for high-mobility student populations.
  • Use project-based and competency-based learning.
  • Facilitate multi-grade, multi-content coursework for scholars in their units.
  • Ensure timely delivery and grading of lessons.
  • Adapt lessons to accommodate varied learning styles, abilities, and academic levels of scholars.
  • Maintain a positive, structured learning environment for all scholars.
  • Use restorative practices to support the academic and behavioral growth of scholars.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized microcredentials.
  • Track progress toward credential attainment.
  • Embed career readiness and workforce skills.
  • Use approved technology platforms.
  • Manage classroom equipment and ensure responsible use.
  • Work closely with colleagues, leadership, and facility staff to ensure delivery of a well-rounded educational program.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss scholar progress, share strategies, and address academic and/or behavioral concerns.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about scholar needs and achievements.
  • Ensure high-quality instructional materials comply with organization, facility, district, and federal education regulations.
  • Prepare reports (lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, gradebook, etc.) on time and in accordance with organizational guidelines.
  • Tasks that may not directly align with your job description but are vital and serve to maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment for scholars and staff.
