About The Position

The candidate for this position will prepare and deliver lessons on a specific subject area to students in grades 9-12. This candidate will be responsible for teaching one to two subjects within that content area depending on documented certifications. This candidate will deliver lessons to different classes of students throughout the day. The candidate will develop weekly lesson plans, assess student performance and progress, meet with administrators and parents as needed, and tutor students who need extra support in a given subject area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution in the content area for the position applied.
  • Holds a Virginia Provisional, Collegiate, Technical, or Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in business.
  • Must possess prior work experience in the field of Business.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful, full-time teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts Business content and methods to create relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students, utilizing a curriculum designated by Brunswick County Public Schools.
  • Administers tests by division testing protocols.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials consistent with the division’s instructional philosophy and aligned with course standards; offers personalized and small-group instruction to tailor the curriculum to individual student needs and subgroups.
  • Encourages students to think critically and express original ideas.
  • Establishes and upholds standards of student conduct necessary for a well-organized, productive classroom environment.
  • Assesses academic and social progress of students, prepares report cards, and maintains accurate records including attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other necessary documentation.
  • Evaluate students' progress in meeting business skills course standards.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with fellow professional staff members to assess and address learning, health, and attitude issues.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and essential subject matter as mandated by state law and Brunswick County Public Schools' regulations and procedures.
  • Demonstrates inclusive practices in all activities.
  • Participates in faculty committees and supports student activities.
  • Supervises students during assigned extracurricular activities throughout the school day.
