About The Position

The Lead Technician, viewed as a role model by others, serves as a liaison and resource for department regarding the decontamination, cleaning, instrument assembly, packaging, sterilization, transport and storage of all patient care instrumentation and equipment. The Lead Technician will assist with direction, planning, organizing the staff, and activities of the Sterile Processing department. Ensures that best practices related to decontamination, sterilization, preparing and packaging of instruments are adhered to by staff. The Lead Technician utilizes key performance indicators to identify trending areas in need of improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of sterile processing experience.
  • Sterile Processing Technician certification (HSPA or CSPD)
  • Ethical Conduct

  • Microsoft Office suite
  • Basic computer hardware & network troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.

  • Applies judgment and makes informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of and experience with care, handling, and assembly of surgical instrumentation, sterilization practices, and surgical supplies.
  • Knowledge of new technologies specific to sterile processing.
  • The ability to maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Progressive leadership experience- preferred
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS)- preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assures the practical use of resources.
  • Efficiently maintains instrument and processing supply inventory.
  • Checks sterilization/decontamination equipment to make sure appropriate parameters are met.
  • Consistently demonstrates required competencies.
  • Mentors, trains, or develops peers or team members to improve competencies.
  • Demonstrates and maintains in-depth knowledge of surgical instrument processing, including the assembly of complex surgical instrument sets and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes.
  • Adheres to safety and infection prevention policies and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Prepares and sterilizes surgical instruments and supplies according to established procedures and techniques.
  • Foster effective working relationships with management and departmental staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
