About The Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following: Supervises and maintains individual and group control during all SATF activities, such as cleaning and other chores, attending classes, studying ,counseling sessions both group and individual, serving or eating meals, resting, watching television, participating in recreational activities and other activities as authorized by SATF leadership. Responsible for preventing and reporting all incidents of escapes, self injury and violent or aggressive behaviors on the part of residents. Conducts visual checks and headcounts documenting each check as required by policy. Maintains chronological records in the daily logs of events that occur while on the work shift. Reports resident rule infractions by submitting incident reports. Participates in case staffing with Residential Counselors and medical treatment staff along with disciplinary hearing when required. Enforces the residents sign in and sign out procedures. Along with ensuring fire and safety procedures for residents .Receives new residents and processes them according to departmental rules and regulations ,including carefully searching them according to PREA and CJAD standards. Properly logging and storing all residents' belongings, issuing linens and clothing. Conducting new resident orientation to include providing the residents handbook, explaining grievance procedures and the program policies and procedures along with timelines. Monitors and conduct urine screening and breathalyzer testing. Performs room searches to control contraband taking appropriate actions as needed. Provides answers to all inquiries with appropriate information regarding resident's behaviors. Maintains the facility in a neat and clean manner by supervising residents in regular cleanup activities. Monitors resident curfew, furlough, wake up and meal schedules as per policy and training. Monitors mess hall and classroom procedures for residents. Escorts residents to and from outside appointments. Serves as a positive role model for residents. Responsible when assigned for operating vans and transporting residents as assigned. Attends training as required to include attending all assigned mandatory training to obtain and maintain certification. Provide guidance and assistance to residents deemed necessary while informing their residential Supervision officer and Counselor of all pertinent information. Provide detailed reports when necessary. Conducts searches of lockers, pat downs, strip searches check vehicles and property as necessary for security and safety. Testifies in court as needed. Provides communication with other staff as assigned to include van drivers and CSO. Monitor physical fitness of residents to ensure safety and prevent injury. Demonstrate knowledge of security procedures and techniques. Demonstrate working knowledge of department policies, rules ,regulations and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination) after training. Demonstrate ability to deescalate and handle difficult situations among persons of divergent backgrounds. Ability to deal effectively with possible hostile aggressive and criminally minded population. Confront negative behavior in a positive manner.

Requirements

  • By law the applicant must be age 18 or older
  • Education requires high school education or GED equivalent
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors and the general public
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with residents, staff and others
  • A person employed as a peace officer is not eligible for appointment with the CSCD
  • A person who is currently on community service or parole or serving a sentence for a criminal offense is not eligible to be employed with the CSCD

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Military experience is preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in a correctional or residential setting is preferred but not required
