Candidates interested in hybrid work are encouraged to apply.   Purpose: Responsible for managing projects and operations involving Clinical Trial Materials (CTM) logistics. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) regarding global logistics strategies.  Responsible for compliant preparation and review of import/export documentation in coordination with the International Trade Compliance (ITC) function.  Supports the oversight of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) logistics through a monitoring program.  Collaborates cross-functionally to develop, analyse, recommend, and implement process improvement opportunities to further optimize transportation policies and procedures, improve service and reduce transportation costs or risk.   

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is minimally required. Emphasis in transportation, logistics, distribution, Supply Chain or business administration.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience within logistics with International Supply Chain experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of international and USA trade compliance principles (export/import requirements), logistics and/or operations and experience in supporting related process and procedures
  • Knowledge of regulations, laws and policies regarding US logistics.
  • Experience in US documentation review for import/export operations (such as USDA certificates, FDA End Use Letters, Commercial Invoices, permits/licenses, etc.)
  • Hands on involvement with US import brokers, freight forwarders and last mile delivery carriers
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Highly motivated, organized, process oriented and a creative problem solver able to work in fast-paced and changing environment

  • Pharmaceutical, GxP and cold chain shipping knowledge.

  • Experience in clinical supply, supply chain, or clinical/technical planning and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for clinical logistics processes, procedures, guidelines, tools, to support logistics and ensure effective and compliant strategies world-wide.
  • Participates in VAT reclaim support activities through cross collaboration with tax, finance, and other internal stakeholders.  Ensures monthly reporting for Astellas managed shipments and shipments managed by CMOs for all CTM.
  • Monitors organizational performance with respect to logistics and conducts proactive discussions with CSC internal assessments to ensure compliance, as required.
  • Manages US and international logistics needs across multiple programs including inbound, outbound, direct, and indirect transactions to ensure compliance and integrity of shipments.
  • Manages relationships and oversight of third parties involved in import/export activities (e.g. Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders, Specialty Couriers)
  • Oversees monthly reporting (KPIs) to effectively monitor and measure carrier performance and make recommendations to positively impact costs and service.
  • As required, coordinates and obtains quotes from carriers for inbound and outbound freight movements of drug products and drug substance and communicates to internal and external customers.
  • Leads or supports evaluation of new technologies for handling, storage and distribution, including cytotoxic, frozen, and cryogenic products
  • Supports customs activities related to importations from overseas through interaction with customs brokers, legal counsel, and Global ITC teams on an as-needed basis
  • Reviews, examines, and maintains records according to recordkeeping policies of customs invoices, packing lists, SLI’s, certificates of origin, End Use Letters, and USDA certificates to ensure compliance with US and foreign government regulations
  • Serves as SME on all global Logistics and addresses queries and planning related to the flow of CTM
  • Completes ad hoc assignments as needed
  • May provide supervision, direction and mentorship of contractor(s) or others responsible for various logistics activities.
