About The Position

The Crosswalk Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safe and orderly passage of pedestrians, including patients, visitors, and staff, across designated crosswalks on hospital property. This role involves managing pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow, providing assistance and directions, and maintaining a visible and professional presence to enhance safety and convenience for all individuals entering and exiting the hospital campus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and remain alert and focused.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with varying levels of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective in potentially stressful situations.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of basic traffic safety rules and pedestrian right-of-way.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often outdoors.
  • Ability to remain alert and highly observant of surroundings.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
  • Good hearing and vision (with or without corrective lenses) to effectively monitor traffic and communicate.
  • Ability to use hand signals and verbal commands clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Safely guide pedestrians, including those with mobility challenges, across designated crosswalks.
  • Control and direct vehicular traffic when necessary to ensure pedestrian safety.
  • Maintain a highly visible and alert presence at assigned crosswalk locations.
  • Observe traffic patterns and pedestrian activity to anticipate and prevent potential hazards.
  • Provide clear and courteous instructions to both pedestrians and drivers.
  • Offer friendly assistance and directions to hospital visitors, patients, and staff as needed.
  • Report any unusual or unsafe conditions, incidents, or concerns to appropriate hospital security or management.
  • Adhere to all hospital safety protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional and helpful demeanor at all times.
