Job Summary Summary The CRNA I is a board-certified licensed clinician who provides anesthesia services to all patients in the organization. General responsibilities include reviewing patients' medical history, administering and managing anesthesia, and monitoring patients during procedures or throughout the perioperative period. The incumbent is responsible for supplying documentation of continued registration as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nurse Anesthesia Practitioner required
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist [CRNA (NBCRNA)] - National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) required
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support [ACLS] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, and pharmacology related to anesthesia.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence within the scope of clinical practice standards set by the department.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based care setting, with the ability to work independently and in a care team to deliver high-quality care.
  • Practical interpersonal skills to work with surgeons and staff in various cases and environments. Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to keep up with up to date with best practices in the field of anesthesia.
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a CRNA or New Graduate 0-1 year preferred
  • Foreign language skills for patient population is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. Provides patients or health care proxies necessary information related to anesthesia and in preparation for procedures.
  • Collaborates with the nursing and surgical teams and determines the appropriate type of anesthetic to be used, ensuring quality of care. Performs pre-operative assessments, including histories, physical examinations, and review of systems.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. Conducts the induction and maintenance of anesthesia under the direction of the appointed supervisor.
  • Administers general (intravenous / inhalation) and regional anesthesia and serves as a resource for anesthesia care within the OR and patient care environments. Inserts invasive monitoring lines required for an anesthetic and interprets the data.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Monitors the life support functions of the patient during the period of anesthesia or surgery as needed. Assesses, interprets, and treats physiologic responses to anesthesia that include oxygenation, circulation, and ventilation.
  • Keeps OR and Anesthesia care team informed of patient's condition and documents pertinent information concerning anesthetic course in the EMR. Prepares and evaluates the safety of anesthetic equipment, supplies, and drugs.
  • Participates in drug or operational audits, projects, and meetings as needed. Works with the staff of the Pharmacy department in handling and use of drugs and related agents. Properly waste drugs in an approved and consistent manner.
  • Provides observation and care in the immediate post-operative period until a report of pertinent information has been given to and responsibility for the patient accepted by the RN or MD covering the appropriate recovery area.
  • Is responsible for supplying documentation of continued registration as a CRNA and maintain credentialing.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team in all aspects of patient care within the peri-operative setting.
  • Contributes to and participates in clinical education, such as Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
  • May provide coverage at additional site locations as needed.
