About The Position

Under the supervision of and direction of an anesthesia provider, the incumbent participates in the implementation and assurance of high-quality patient care, evaluation and documentation preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. The intern will assist the CRNA or Anesthesiologist with pre- /post-operative assessments. Accurately monitor patients and perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support measures during emergencies needed. The incumbent will ensure operation and monitoring of equipment. Assure that adequate supplies are available for perioperative cases. The intern will assist the anesthesia provider with preparation of blocks, point of care laboratory testing, provide Nursing care for recovery and transport as needed. Participate in other departmental/professional duties as requested by anesthesia leadership including educational and experiential opportunities toward becoming a licensed CRNA.

Requirements

  • BACH
  • BSN in nursing required at the time of hire or transfer to position.
  • Must be accepted into an accredited CRNA program.
  • ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Within 1 month of hire or transfer into position.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support
  • Within 1 month of hire or transfer into position.
  • RN: Registered Nurse
  • One year of critical care nursing experience either in the intensive care unit (ICU) or emergency department required.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under continuous supervision by a licensed CRNA, participate in the plan of care during procedures while keeping patient safety a priority. Under continuous supervision of the licensed CRNA, assist with post?anesthesia care and evaluation. Assist operating room RN staff within the scope of practice of a licensed RN as requested. Provides assistance in performing physiologic monitoring.
  • Assemble equipment and supplies for procedures. Monitor the sterile field.
  • Participate in staff development by attending in-services, educational meetings, staff meetings, and other meetings/seminars as requested by anesthesia leadership.
  • Perform point of care laboratory testing.
  • Assist anesthesia provider during intubations.
  • Maintains immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures. Assists with preparation of equipment for regional blocks in the pre-operative holding area.
  • In the performance of the regular job duties, it is appropriate for this job code to have access to the medication room and supply room for the purpose of stocking.
  • Troubleshoots invasive lines and anesthesia equipment.
  • Ensures anesthesia equipment is properly disinfected and cleaned after use per medical center infection control policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
