The Critical Care Paramedic provides high quality patient care and safe medical transport to sick and injured patients in all age groups. Uses an interdisciplinary model to work with the AirLink/VitaLink Staff Nurse and other appropriate medical personnel to establish and prioritize a plan of care. This plan of care for each patient will be consistent with approved treatment protocols, policies and procedures. Provides advanced, ICU-level medical care during patient transport Manages ventilators, infusion pumps, and complex monitoring equipment Administers critical medications, including vasoactive and sedative agents Performs advanced airway management and respiratory support Stabilizes trauma, cardiac, neurological, and medical emergencies Communicates patient status and interventions with sending and receiving medical teams Ensures safe, efficient transport by air or ground while maintaining continuous patient assessment Documents all assessments, interventions, and changes in patient condition Operates within specialized protocols and collaborates closely with nurses, physicians, and pilots/drivers

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required. Completion of an accepted Paramedic program, required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with a paid EMS provider at the paramedic level, required.
  • Current North Carolina Paramedic or Nationally Registered Paramedic. Current NC Paramedic required to perform direct patient care, required.
  • Current Basic Life Support, ACLS, and PALS certification, required.
  • Advanced trauma certification and NRP required within 6 months of hire, required.
  • Concurrent with Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) accreditation standards, a Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification (BCCTPC) Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) or Flight Paramedic (FP-C) certification or successful completion of Critical Care Emergency Transport Program (CCEMTP) with current CCEMTP license, required.
  • Candidate must be eligible to obtain North Carolina Paramedic certification.
  • Paramedics assigned to flight duties must maintain dual certification in North and South Carolina.
  • Current and valid driver's license (if from out of state, must obtain valid NC license within 30 days of hire). Must meet general hospital driving requirements. EVO is required to drive during emergency situations. Must be 19 years of age with zero points on driving record.
