About The Position

Washington DC Region - Experienced Full-Time Critical Care Physician Assistants MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, located in the heart of our nation's capital, are seeking experienced Critical Care Physician Assistants. In this role, critical care Physician Assistants work autonomously but collaboratively with Intensive Care Physicians and a multidisciplinary care team to provide high quality and cost-effective care to patients in critical condition. This position has a hiring range of USD $117,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program
  • NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certification
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • One year of critical care experience or in-patient hospital medicine is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examination of patients
  • Establish appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging
  • Initiate and manage appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, and acid-base disturbances and renal failure
  • Present patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team
  • Collaborate with all involved care teams including other consultants
  • Perform bedside procedures including insertion of central venous, non-tunneled dialysis, and arterial catheters, chest tubes, and thoracentesis.
  • Communicate between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
  • Educate and supervise new graduate APPs and students where appropriate
