SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Medical Director and the Lifeguard EMS Program Coordinator, following established policies and procedures, performs the role of a Critical Care Paramedic, including delivery of patient care, training, equipment use and maintenance, and research efforts. Maintains clinical skills, knowledge of literature in the field, assists the Medical Director and the program coordinator in the design of training curricula and research protocols, and develops procedures to carry out patient care, research, program development and outreach, and training objectives. The position shall not supersede the RN role in patient care once responsibility for a patient is transferred from the critical care paramedic to the RN. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs patient care at incident scenes and during critical care transport in accordance with established standards, protocols and policies under the supervision of the physician medical director (or his/her designee). Provides comprehensive, effective and safe care to any patient transported by Lifeguard EMS. Participates in training of emergency care personnel (EMTs, students, first responders, residents, attending physicians, nurses and others) including curricula development, precepting, mentoring, simulation-based training, conferences and other training techniques. Assists in development of patient care protocols and methods, training curricula, other training techniques, and other research, training, and patient care efforts. Attends required staff and educational meetings and remains current with literature pertaining to relevant program areas of interest. Participates in the design and conduct of experiments, including enrollment of study subjects, according to established protocols and research methodology. Assists in writing presentations and papers for publications based on research performed and may present such findings at conferences. Completes patient documentation (written and electronic) per Rhode Island Hospital and The Rhode Island Department of Health: Division of EMS. This documentation shall be completed in a timely fashion to expedite patient billing. Performs public education, marketing and outreach and maintains a cheerful, positive attitude toward patients and families, co-workers, staff of other facilities and the public. Maintains a clean operational environment. Retrieves, stocks and cleans medical equipment. Reports to remote location(s) for duty. Responds to on-call to emergencies, disasters and major incidents. Performs data entry and clerical assistance. Assists with Emergency Department communications and dispatch at and for the communications center.
