About The Position

The Ada S. McKinley Behavioral Health & Clinical Services (BHCS) Program is seeking a skilled and compassionate Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Crisis Stabilization Clinician to join our Crisis Stabilization Program. This position is responsible for providing direct clinical services, crisis intervention, and stabilization to individuals experiencing acute behavioral health crises. The clinician will deliver trauma-informed, person-centered care while ensuring continuity of services, timely documentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic, assessment, and counseling skills, as well as a passion for supporting individuals in crisis.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field (required).
  • Minimum of one to two years of clinical experience, preferably in crisis intervention, behavioral health, or emergency services.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to individuals in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions for crisis stabilization.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Background check and clearance required.
  • Note: This position requires State of Illinois clearance for child abuse/neglect history, as well as a personal background review, fingerprinting, and criminal check.
  • LPC, LSW, LCPC, or LCSW in Illinois (or eligibility for licensure within 6 months).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with co-occurring disorders, severe mental illness (SMI), or forensic populations is preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments and safety planning, for individuals in crisis.
  • Provide individual and group counseling interventions to stabilize acute symptoms and reduce immediate risk.
  • Develop crisis stabilization treatment plans tailored to the client’s needs, strengths, and recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with peer specialists, case managers, and other team members to ensure holistic support.
  • Coordinate referrals and warm handoffs to community-based mental health and medical services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record system.
  • Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and multidisciplinary treatment reviews.
  • Assist in de-escalating high-risk situations in a safe, therapeutic manner.
  • Educate clients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and available resources.
  • Uphold trauma-informed, culturally competent practices to foster a safe and supportive environment.
