A little about us For over 40 years, AHCS has been the primary public behavioral healthcare provider in the Alleghany Highlands area, offering services to adults and children with challenges related to mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities. Your day-to-day as a Crisis Services Director The Full-Time Crisis Services Director at Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the administrative, staff coverage, and clinical operations of the AHCS Crisis Receiving Center. This position encompasses the directorship of Mobile Crisis, 23-hour Crisis Observation, and Crisis Stabilization services, catering to both adults and children in need. The Director will manage budgeting, planning, and organizing while ensuring that clinical crisis services are effectively monitored and delivered. Compliance with licensing and certification standards is paramount, alongside building relationships with federal, state, and local agencies. The role also requires oversight of employee development and training, as well as strategic revenue maximization through referral chains. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director will collaborate with various program leaders within the agency, participate in assigned committees, and engage in local workgroups focused on system improvements to benefit AHCS clients.

Requirements

  • Candidates must excel in planning, evaluating, and supervising clinical crisis services staff, demonstrating strong program development and effective resource deployment abilities.
  • Key competencies also include budget planning, conflict management, problem-solving, and public relations.
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal, is crucial for cultivating cooperative relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of confidentiality regulations and the ability to maintain required documentation in compliance with AHCS, Medicaid, and licensure guidelines are essential.
  • Familiarity with community resources, interagency relationships, and legal rights—including HIPAA and the Code of Virginia's regulations—is necessary for providing high-quality care.
  • Proficiency with software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and clinical documentation platforms is required.
  • A solid knowledge of performance contract standards and the ability to obtain certification as a Virginia Certified Pre-screener will further enhance success in this role.
  • Additionally, expertise in psychiatric best practices and crisis response strategies is vital.
