About The Position

The Crisis Response Team Leader is a crucial “First Responder” within the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility, which operates 365 days a year, 24/7. The Crisis Response Team Leader will immediately respond to disturbances, escapes, fires, evacuations, natural disasters, and/or non-emergency responses. The Crisis Response Team Leaders will direct a team of highly skilled individuals who are trained in trauma-informed response. The Team Leader role is vital in ensuring the safety and security of the facility and the community it serves. Team Leaders of the Trauma-Informed Crisis Response Team will develop specialized skills in handling multiple threat levels in the facility through a trauma-informed lens. This includes using de-escalation and the tension reduction cycle.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, military, and/or a secured/correctional facility.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Applicants MUST have or be able to obtain MDHHS Registry and Central Registry Clearance prior to hire and annually thereafter.
  • Candidates that have lived outside of the state of Michigan must provide clearance from that state.
  • Be willing to accept appointment to any one of the three shifts in any five-day work week schedule, Monday through Sunday, including holidays.
  • Be willing to accept mandatory overtime based on the needs of the facility.
  • Must complete a 160-hour training curriculum.
  • Pass a medical examination before hired and annually thereafter.
  • Pass physical agility requirement test before hire and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a shift of Trauma-Informed Crisis Response Team members and ensure daily objectives are complete.
  • Ensure team members follow policies and procedures and state licensing guidelines while operating.
  • Provide direction to team members when activated to ensure the safety of the residents, staff, and team members.
  • Deploy team members when necessary.
  • Learn policies and procedures related to trauma-informed crisis response, security and control, and other related institutional policies correlating to child licensing rules.
  • Provide crisis intervention, stabilization, and support to units within the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility where juvenile residents present behavioral health concerns or are in an active state of crisis.
  • Evaluate posed threats to determine the need for a supportive response, with a primary focus on verbal de-escalation.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine welfare checks of all housing units to ensure stability.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine safety and sanitation inspections of all housing units to mitigate entry of illegal contraband or weapons into the facility.
  • Assess behavior patterns and adverse health conditions in juveniles and follow proper medical reporting procedures.
  • Conduct routine fire safety inspections and test duress alarms for functionality.
  • Conduct routine fire and emergency evacuation drills.
  • Build relationships with juvenile residents and possess the ability to establish trust and cooperation with the residents while maintaining a high standard of professionalism, assertiveness, and leadership.
  • Build relationships with local law enforcement, fire, and EMS, and be able to coordinate efforts to control a critical incident if needed.
  • Transport of juveniles, as needed.
  • Prepare and process incident reports with accurate detail and information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
