About The Position

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Counselor - Crisis Intervention and Case Management (Student Services Associate). We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Crisis Intervention Specialist / Case Manager to provide immediate support and long-term case management for students in crisis. This role combines crisis response, resource coordination, and student advocacy to ensure student safety, stability, and success.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology, Counseling, Clinical or Educational Psychology, Social Work or related field. Must be licensed by the State of Texas as LPC, LPC ' Associate, LMFT, LMFT-Associate, LMSW, or equivalent; or have the ability to obtain appropriate licensure within twenty-four months of employment.
  • Respond promptly to student crises, providing assessment, intervention, and follow-up.
  • Manage emergency funding requests, housing needs, and access to campus resources, including the Trailblazer Care Pantry and Clothing Closet.
  • Develop individualized support plans and connect students to on-campus and community services.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation while adhering to confidentiality standards.
  • Collaborate with counseling staff, faculty, and campus departments to address student needs holistically.
  • Participate in professional development and campus initiatives related to mental health and crisis support.
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related mental health field REQUIRED.
  • Must hold an active Texas license in one of the following areas or be eligible to obtain licensure within 24 months of employment in one of the following:
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC or LPC-A)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW or LMSW in clinical supervision)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT or LMFT-A)
  • Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education or working with college students.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, mental health counseling, and suicide prevention.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, case management, or student support services.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources, emergency housing, and financial assistance programs.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and cultural competence.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and comprehensive case management for students experiencing varying levels of concern or crisis, including academic distress, financial hardship, mental health challenges, safety concerns, and social/family disruptions. Coordinates care plans, follows up regularly, and ensures continuity of support.
  • Conducts assessments and triages student concerns to appropriate university and/or community resources. Facilitates referrals, warm hand-offs, and care coordination for students navigating complex systems.
  • Serves as a core member of the UNT Dallas CARE Team and participates in Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) meetings. Provides updates on cases, offers expertise in behavioral health, and collaborates on action plans for students of concern.
  • Supports and implements wellness outreach, prevention education, and early intervention efforts on campus, in collaboration with the Counseling & Wellness team. Co-develops training and awareness initiatives for students, staff, and faculty related to recognizing and responding to students in distress.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in accordance with departmental standards, FERPA, and other applicable laws and policies. Participates in data tracking and reporting related to case management trends.
  • Assists students in identifying and navigating both on-campus and off-campus support services. When appropriate, advocates on behalf of students to reduce barriers to care and increase access to needed resources.
  • Supports the Assistant Director of Counseling and Wellness with special projects, presentations, and department initiatives. May assist with supervision of interns or graduate assistants as needed.
  • Participates in university committees, division-wide initiatives, professional development opportunities, and other duties as assigned.
