Requirements

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and de-escalate crises.
  • Ability to work independently while still seeking support as needed
  • A High School Diploma or HSE is required, along with past employment experience

Responsibilities

  • Answer inbound 988 contacts in a timely manner per program standards.
  • Works collaboratively with individuals in crisis and encourages their involvement in their care and other related decisions.
  • Provides appropriate mental health information and referrals utilizing the designated databases.
  • Collaborates with contacts to develop safety plans.
  • Utilizes the local crisis response teams and public service answering points for intervention as needed.
  • Provides thorough and accurate documentation of all caller interactions throughout the shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all callers.
  • Conduct follow-up calls at the scheduled times.
  • Supports and trains the 988 Crisis Call Volunteers on shift.
  • Completes mandatory Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training within 12 months of employment.
  • Performs all duties and work assignments in an ethical, safe, healthy, and environmentally sound manner and in compliance with generally accepted legal, business, and professional standards.
  • Performs related and/or other work as assigned.
  • Upon hiring, the 988 Crisis Support Specialist will undergo training and will be expected to pass testing relevant to the position.
