About The Position

This position works under the direct supervision of the Crisis Assessment Supervisor and is responsible for conducting immediate mental health assessments and crisis interventions at walk‑in centers and emergency rooms. The role coordinates with emergency services, facilitates referrals, documents all interactions in the EHR, supports families, manages high‑stress situations, and advocates for client needs. This position is fully onsite at OCHN’s Resource and Crisis Center in Pontiac, MI, and works one day per week on Thursdays. We are hiring for both day shift (7:00 AM–7:30 PM) and night shift (7:00 PM–7:30 AM).

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field or Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Full or limited license
  • Certification in crisis intervention or trauma-informed care
  • Previous experience in crisis intervention or emergency mental health
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and mental health assessment tools
  • Basic understanding of community resources and referral processes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for individuals at the walk-in crisis center and local emergency rooms
  • Provide immediate psychological support and crisis intervention
  • Coordinate with emergency services, including police and medical personnel
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate providers and resources
  • Document all client and collateral interactions in the EHR
  • Offer support and training to family members and caregivers
  • Manage and de-escalate high-stress situations effectively
  • Advocate for clients’ needs and rights within the system
  • Develop the plan of care in collaboration with the individual/family and the provider agency based on strengths, needs, abilities, and consideration of preferences, and provide individuals served with due process/second opinion, etc.
  • Ensure that eligible individuals who are released or diverted from jail are successfully linked to the most appropriate level of care
