Position Summary The Crime Analyst is responsible to provide information and statistical data to members of the police department. This position works under the direction of the Information Intelligence Unit Sergeant but must coordinate with city administration and all divisions of the police department and interact closely with officers and detectives. In addition to core statistical responsibilities, this position serves in a dual capacity by assisting with foundational intelligence tasks, providing a professional bridge between crime analysis and intelligence operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass background investigation and be certified or certifiable by Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI).
  • Demonstrate competency in the use of computer programs such as the Microsoft Office 365 suite, Access, Tableau, i2 Analyst Notebook, and other law enforcement related computer systems to include Spillman, Versaterm, UCJIS, Jail Offender Management, System, and other software as applicable.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a stressful environment of deadlines and under the direction of multiple supervisors.
  • Ability to work on short notice and in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with city employees, supervisors, professional peers, officers, and the public.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Be familiar with computers, monitors, touch screens, multi-media devices, iPads/tablets, mobile phones, printers, plotters, scanners, fax machines, and related analytical hardware.
  • Possess a minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in statistics, criminology, criminal justice, or another related field.
  • Experience in the crime analysis field can be substituted for education.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to communicate effectively in English;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, track, analyze, and proof crime statistics, intelligence, and trends for dissemination to members of the department, prosecutors, city officials, media, and public as directed.
  • Produce and present weekly, monthly, and annual analytical charting and reports to visualize crime data, trends, and associations.
  • Assist the Information Intelligence Unit (IIU) by performing basic intelligence analyst duties as assigned, including foundational research and support for investigative operations.
  • Provide assistance or technical support for projects as requested by members of the department.
  • Assist responding units and investigators via Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) intelligence during high-priority incidents by researching people, addresses, vehicles, reviewing cameras/ALPRs, and identifying safety concerns.
  • Utilize intelligence and technology to identify crime trends. Manage intelligence files, programs, and software with basic proficiency.
  • Conduct searches in Records Management Systems (e.g., Versaterm, Spillman) and other law enforcement systems including UCJIS and Jail Offender Management Systems.
  • Support business intelligence applications (e.g., MS Access, Tableau, SQL) for report generation under guidance.
  • Perform mapping of statistics and crime trends in ArcGIS with foundational skills.
  • Attend departmental, task force, and other meetings as required.
  • Provide training to department personnel.
  • Attend local and out-of-state training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
