About The Position

The Pavement Preservation Crew Leader plays a critical role in supporting day-to-day field operations at Russell Standard. This hands-on position bridges the responsibilities of a laborer, equipment operator, and CDL driver while assisting the Foreman in leading and organizing the crew. The Crew Leader ensures that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards, especially when the Foreman is not present. The ideal candidate is reliable, communicates well, and supports a positive team culture while helping to prepare for future leadership opportunities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong understanding of pavement preservation operations
  • Experience operating construction equipment and trucks safely
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Comfortable with technology (iPad, apps for inspections and time tracking)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor in all weather conditions
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and use hands/wrists frequently
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime or weekends as needed
  • Ability to identify and report safety issues promptly
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and adapt to changing field conditions
  • Commitment to upholding company safety and quality standards

Nice To Haves

  • CDL Class B or A license
  • 2+ years of relevant field experience
  • Experience with chip seal, slurry seal, fog seal, or crack sealing
  • Experience mentoring or guiding team members

Responsibilities

  • Promote and uphold all safety standards and PPE compliance.
  • Ensure daily DVIR (Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports) and equipment inspections are completed.
  • Enter equipment defects into E360 using a tablet.
  • Understand daily jobsite operations, specifications, materials, labor, and equipment needs.
  • Ensure the crew leaves the yard/shop on time with everything needed to complete the job.
  • Maintain productivity and direction of the crew when the Foreman is away.
  • Assist in preparing the crew and equipment for the next day’s work, including reloading materials.
  • Support oil orders and equipment moves as directed.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to fellow crew members.
  • Treat team members with dignity and respect while reinforcing accountability.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with team members and leadership.
  • Make decisions in the Foreman’s absence, such as addressing PTO or on-site needs.
  • Enter crew hours in Heavy Job as requested.
  • Complete incident reports when necessary.
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on customer service, work quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Show interest and initiative in developing toward a Foreman role.
  • Trustworthy to work independently and capable of learning all crew roles.
  • Positively represent the company and promote a team-focused culture.
