About The Position

A Crew Leader coordinates, organizes, directs the activities of and works with a crew consisting of diverse members.

Requirements

  • Able to lead by setting a good example and engaging a team to achieve goals
  • Must be reliable; Regular attendance and punctuality is a requirement of this position
  • Must be: Approachable; Able to communicate in a friendly, professional and courteous manner Self-motivated and possess strong problem-solving skills Willing to work independently; Have good organizational skills and attention to detail Willing to work evening, holidays and occasional weekends as scheduled by Supervisor/Manager
  • Able to work harmoniously with other employees from a variety of backgrounds
  • Must be able to: Stand/walk 8+ hours, bend/squat Lift up to 20 pounds; Up to 50lbs for some jobs Push/pull loaded plant carts weighing up to 200 lbs; 300 lbs. for some jobs Work with small equipment or willing to learn these skills Adhere to safety policies and procedures (safety-conscious) Adapt to changing working conditions
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum one-year experience in greenhouse, nursery operations or horticulture, or related field
  • Minimum six-months of crew lead or supervisory experience
  • Must be able to speak English

  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for workflow, record keeping and tools/resources for assigned area.
  • Works with and directs the work of an assigned team of greenhouse employees (crew) on: Greenhouse production (Plant on moving line, pick up and space plants, hang baskets) Plants maintenance (Prune to maintain good quality of plants) Plant preparation for shipping (pick and box plants) General greenhouse housekeeping and upkeep
  • Act as first point of contact for assigned crew throughout the day
  • Proactively acts and communicates to ensure smooth operations and effective collaboration within team and other areas.
  • Provides effective guidance on how work orders should be read and fulfilled.
  • Assists with the training and guidance of new and existing crew members.
  • Provides feedback to management on employee performance and progress.
  • Coaches and motivates employee to improve performance and or behavior.
  • Collaborates with co-workers and partners in program design and delivery.
  • Escalates concerns regarding employee or resources issues to management.
  • May drive electric carts and be required to climb ladders
