About The Position

The Crew Chief I is responsible for leading a survey crew in the execution of daily field activities for RES Solar, T&D, and Preconstruction projects. This role provides hands-on surveying support including construction staking, control point verification, and accurate field data collection while ensuring all work aligns with RES safety and quality standards. The Crew Chief I communicates routinely with the Field Coordinator to meet project schedule requirements and maintain organized and reliable surveying operations.

Requirements

1 year or more Leading others required
Proficient level of knowledge in: Understanding of Trimble, SPS and CHC equipment and data collectors.
Ability to read plans, understand layouts, and adjust for site conditions
Strong communication and leadership skills are important.
Demonstrated commitment to quality.
Working knowledge of coordinate systems, site control, and survey file types.
2 years or more Construction Surveying Required

Nice To Haves

Proficient with UAV operations preferred (Part 107 a plus).
Less than 1 year AutoCAD & TBC Experience Preferred

Responsibilities

Leads and directs Survey Technicians during daily tasks.
Performs construction staking, topographic surveys, and as-built data collection with minimal supervision.
Sets, verifies, and maintains survey control points.
Communicates daily workload plans, constraints, and progress to the Field Coordinator.
Ensures survey equipment is maintained, calibrated, and ready for use.
Conducts routine vehicle and equipment inspections.
Maintains organized notes, point logs, and daily reports.
Participates in troubleshooting layout discrepancies and coordinate solutions with management.
Trains and mentors Survey Technicians in field procedures and equipment usage.
Operates company vehicles safely across all site conditions.
Supports UAV operations as needed for flights, mapping, and field data capture.
Promotes continuous improvement and uphold RES surveying best practices.
Operates company vehicles and equipment safely in varying site and weather conditions.
Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
Practices all required safety and quality standards set by RES.
Identifies and reports potential hazards immediately.
Participates in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Wears all required PPE and ensures equipment is inspected prior to use.
Fills in for Field Coordinator on POD meetings during rotations.
Ensures that safety is the most important function, follows safe practices while working.
Reinforces safe behaviors and eliminates “at risk” behaviors.
Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Ensures Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occurs before scopes of work commence.
Adheres to and understands standard operating procedures.
Receives job- and task-specific training prior to work commencing.
Follows technical, quality and safety systems in place and determines appropriate action.
Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action.
Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
