About The Position

This position is responsible for managing the Credit Administration function in order to meet the credit needs of customers while, at the same time, controlling credit risk for the Company; perform duties relating to the loan review function; develop, implement, and achieve annual goals and objectives as established in the Credit Administration's annual operating plan; organize the department; ensure the department's compliance with various operating policies and procedures and various regulatory requirements; supervise assigned personnel; communicate and interface with other departments and management personnel; provide periodic management reports.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in related positions.
  • Specialized credit services and bank lending education and training.
  • Moderate PC skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills.
  • Knowledge of all loans, principles, policies, and practices; a thorough knowledge of financial statement analysis; knowledge of current lending, credit administration, and collection laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated management and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Credit Administration function in order to meet the credit needs of customers while, at the same time, controlling credit risk for the Company.
  • Oversee the approval process for new loan requests and management of the Company commercial loan portfolio, including, management of loan portfolio concentration and stress testing.
  • Work with Senior Commercial Loan Officers to ensure that productivity targets are being met for credit analysis, loan documentation and scheduling of loan closings.
  • Ensure adherence to the credit underwriting standards and assists in credit policy development and maintenance.
  • Review credits periodically to detect possible deteriorating situations.
  • Assist with reviews of past-due and criticized loan reports, supervisory examination reports, and other sources of information for identification and deteriorating situations.
  • Oversee the productive and accurate servicing of all credit accounts, e.g., credit inquiries, file development and maintenance, collateral control, loan reporting, etc.
  • Ensure accurate risk rating of commercial loans.
  • Interface with the asset recovery function as needed in order to assist in the collection of past due loans and/or protect the Company’s financial interests in a workout situation.
  • Work with the Asset Recovery Manager to compile data on adversely graded loans for periodic reports to senior management.
  • Encourage the growth and professional development of credit department staff.
  • Work as a member of the credit services team to identify and correct any issues relating to the lending function, e.g., customer service, internal operations, credit control procedures, etc.
  • Utilize lending authority to provide additional or override authority for all lending personnel within policy guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough loan documentation reviews to analyze adherence to loan policy and procedure with respect to proper information, loan file organization, etc.
  • Review, grade, and comment on bank loan arrangements, credit authorizations involving lines of credit, commitments, and term arrangements reported by all lending units and credit departments; prepare periodic summary reports.
  • Directly supervise assigned personnel by assisting in the selection of new personnel and making provisions for the proper orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Review employee performance throughout the probationary period and on a regularly scheduled basis thereafter.
  • Organize, schedule, and distribute work among assigned personnel and keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the division and/or their jobs; create an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
  • Administer personnel policies and procedures as established by Company policy.
  • Communicate and interface with other divisions and management personnel as part of the management team in order to integrate objectives and activities.
  • Actively represent the Company in public relations and related community activities.
  • Act as primary Credit Division contact for bank regulator, independent loan review and independent audit firm.
  • Coordinate the development of the Company’s Loan Policy and procedures; evaluate adherence and corrects lenders who do not comply.
  • Coordinate quarterly action plan review meetings and regular portfolio reviews with relationship managers.
  • Compile data on loan reviews for periodic reports to management personnel and the Board of Directors.
  • Provide periodic reports to President/CEO, Board of Directors and other groups, committees, or individuals as required throughout the organization.
  • Review journals, articles, publications, and other material to review regulatory and legal changes pertinent to the lending operation and to ensure that department policies and procedures comply with all applicable laws and regulations; work with the compliance function in this regard also.
  • Participate as an active member of the Tompkins Credit Policy Committee.
  • All other duties as assigned.
