About The Position

Functions of Position:  Processes and maintains confidential files for medical staff members and Allied Health Professionals. This entails ongoing maintenance of verification and data base entry of current information (Missouri license, malpractice insurance, DEA, and BNDD).  Initiates and follows through with the credentialing verification process for requests for privileges and/or reappointments to the Medical Staff.  Carries out all primary source verifications (education, competence, licensure, board certification, malpractice history…) and query relevant databases (NPDB, AMA, OPMS, OIG….).  Initiates criminal background checks pertinent to each applicant.  Reviews each application and documentation gathered in support thereof for completeness and accuracy, and prepares this information for review and recommendation of the department chair, Credentials Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and Hospital Executive Committee.  Tracks the progress of applications for appointment, reappointment, and clinical privileges and initiates appropriate follow-up for issues that require further investigation, if necessary  Disseminates information regarding appointment and privileging to hospital departments with a need to know.  Works independently to coordinate the medical staff credentialing functions in accordance with guidelines and regulations of the Medical Staff By-Laws, the medical center by-laws, JCAHO, National Practitioner Data Bank, the State of Missouri, and FDA regulations (for the institutional review board activities)  Works with medical staff members and Administration to fulfill the tasks of the credentialing process.  Organizes, attends, takes minutes, and prepares agendas and pertinent information for Credential Committee meeting.  Attends meetings as required.  Performs secretarial functions for medical staff Credentials Committee.  Performs day-to-day clerical functions of maintaining the Credentials Office.  Carries out all job responsibilities while maintaining confidentiality.  Coordinates monthly Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs for Medical Staff.  Performs other credentialing duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate from high school.
  • College accredited or commercial courses in medical terminology, computers, typing, shorthand and English preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of experience in health care related field is preferred
