Crane Operator

About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to operate stationary overhead crane to lift, move, and position loads, such as machinery, equipment, concrete products, and solid or bulk materials. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.

Requirements

A Minimum of 5 years of experience operation cranes in construction worksites.
Must have current driver’s license and other certification required by OSHA, state, or federal regulations.
Have current NCCER or NCCCO crane operator certification.
Able to identify all hand signals, weight limits, safety regulations, and operating codes that are relevant for crane operation.
Work with precision to ensure movement of crane and loads are secured and safely moved.
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.
Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.

Responsibilities

Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
Manipulates or depresses crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
Attaches load to hook or crane accessory prior to operating crane.
Operates crane according to signals from helper.
Works within precise limits and standards of accuracy.

Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety.

Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
Reports all violations of applicable laws, regulations or Company policies and procedures promptly, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
Performs other duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
