About The Position

As the Crane Operator, you will work onsite in Houston, TX and will be responsible for safely operating mobile and/or fixed cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment on heavy civil construction projects. This role supports infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, marine construction, utilities, site development, and large-scale earthwork. You must adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and project-specific procedures while working in dynamic outdoor environments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience operating cranes in heavy civil construction required.
  • Current Crane Operator Certification (e.g. NCCCO or equivalent) required.
  • Current EM 385-1-1 Crane Operating Physical Qualification/Examination, or ability to obtain at date of hire required.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy required.
  • Ability to pass employment drug, driving, and background screenings.
  • Intermediate and progressive knowledge of crane operation and rigging aspects, including operating, control, and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of load charts, rigging practices, and lift planning.
  • Thorough knowledge of crane safety standards and signaling procedures.
  • Skilled in inspecting cranes and rigging equipment for safety and maintenance purposes.
  • Effective communication skills with crew members and supervisors.
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing time.
  • Excellent analytical and forecasting skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
  • Ability to observe safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe operation of hydraulic, lattice boom, crawler, rough terrain, and/or tower cranes to lift, position, and set materials, equipment, and structural components.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, complete required documentation, and report maintenance needs before each use to ensure safe and proper functionality.
  • Interpret load charts and determine safe lifting capacities based on radius, configuration, and site conditions.
  • Work closely with riggers, signal persons, foremen, and superintendents to ensure safe and precise lifts.
  • Set up and break down cranes, including outriggers, counterweights, and rigging configurations.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Follow engineered lift plans and participate in critical lift planning meetings when required.
  • Monitor weather conditions and job site hazards to ensure safe crane operations.
  • Always maintain situational awareness during crane operation.
  • Assist with minor maintenance and lubrication of equipment as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized equipment and work areas.
  • Support additional construction tasks as directed when crane operation is not required.
  • Operate crane and equipment safely, precisely, and efficiently.
  • Function as rigger/signal person depending on work and staff, as needed.
  • Operate the crane according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
  • Complete job tickets, crane inspection reports, and other necessary daily paperwork.
  • Operate fleet vehicles, trailers, and other heavy equipment as needed for assigned projects.
  • Follow directives from the supervisor and anyone senior, with the sense of duty to take the initiative and remain productive at work.
  • Work as a “team player” with co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Understand, advocate, participate in, and fully comply with Brice’s project specific safety procedures and policies.
  • Maintain any required certifications mandatory by law or company policy.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
