About The Position

The Crane Operator is responsible for operating the gantry cranes in a safe, efficient, and effective manner to load and unload cargo to and from the vessel. The Crane Operator is responsible for practicing safe work habits and for maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

Must possess good depth perception skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Must posses Gantry Crane certification from an accredited institute.
Must have 1 to 3 years of experience in operating a gantry crane
Employee must possess the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Employee must be able to climb and work at high elevations near navigable waters
Employee must be authorized to work in the United States, obtain a port ID, and TWIC license.

Responsibilities

Employee is responsible for the operation of gantry cranes used in heavy lifting and loading and unloading of containers and break-bulk cargo on vessels.
Operates gantry crane to hoist equipment and materials in a safe and efficient manner.
Is responsible for the safe operation of the crane and the safety of the gang on and off the ship.
Demonstrates knowledge of safe rigging practices.
Reads and interprets load charts and instructions.
Reads, interprets and follows hand and flag signals.
Completes a safety risk assessment during and after preparing straps, sling, and cables prior to operating the crane.
Assures that all lifts are within the load limits of equipment and correctly rigged.
Assures that lifting gear is inspected prior to use.
Possesses industry, operational, and safety procedures knowledge in order to deliver a good performance in a fast-paced environment.
Communicates professionally with team members, supervisors, and customers.
Actively participates in safety or educational training as required
Follows all safety standards & guidelines.
