About The Position

As a Crane Operator II, you will assume a more experienced role in operating specialized crane equipment and overseeing complex material handling operations. Your expertise and experience will contribute to maintaining high safety, efficiency, and productivity standards within our facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BlueScope Recycling crane certification is required.
  • Proven experience as a crane operator, preferably in a scrap recycling or similar industrial environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge and proficiency in operating specialized crane equipment.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide less experienced operators.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in handling materials and managing tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects regularly.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in operating crane controls and handling materials with precision and care.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maneuver specialized crane equipment, such as grapple or mag crane to load, unload, and move scrap materials within the yard.
  • Handle large or irregularly shaped scrap materials with precision and efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough pre-operational checks and perform routine maintenance on crane equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Lead and coordinate material handling activities, including loading, unloading, and transporting scrap materials within the yard.
  • Ensure compliance with work orders, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training to Material Handler Crane Operator I and other team members as needed.
  • Monitor the quality and condition of scrap materials during handling and storage processes.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify the accuracy of inventory records and material counts.
  • Report any quality issues or discrepancies to supervisory staff for corrective action.
  • Promote a safety culture by adhering to all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Conduct safety audits, participate in safety training programs, and implement corrective actions to address safety concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies related to scrap material handling and recycling processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, operators, and team members to optimize material flow and achieve production goals.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers regarding job assignments, priorities, and operational updates.
  • Foster a positive work environment by demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to operational excellence.
