About The Position

The Craftsman II maintains CRT’s leased and owned building structures by performing various types of repairs and maintenance, including full carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks. This role also involves overseeing agency construction projects and collaborating with hired construction crews to ensure timely completion of jobs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate skills in: carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills
  • Ability to read blueprints as well as knowledge of blueprint and construction specifications.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Active Driver License in good standing required upon hire and throughout employment
  • Physical and TB Required

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reviewing all general repair work at all CRT sites throughout the Agency using the Agency’s work order system.
  • Must have Plumbing and Electrical knowledge and a clear understanding of the following plumbing and electrical issues: unclogging toilets and drains, checking electrical panels for services not working, testing outlets, acting as a point person with licensed electrician and licensed Plumbers hired to make corrections and changes to existing electrical/plumbing systems, as well as any other assigned contractor.
  • Work along with other staff on projects that are identified as emergencies and are time sensitive to the Program and standards/success.
  • Meeting with contractors to review completed work/ongoing projects, etc.
  • Responsible for various facets of repairs at all CRT sites through the Agency work order system.
  • Prioritize assignments and complete tasks independently, or with minimal assistance in a timely manner.
  • Plumbing knowledge and experience including but not limited to replacing faucets, sinks, and toilets; unclogging drains; replacing overflow pans, etc.
  • Carpentry experience including but not limited to: replace exterior deck railings, supports, balusters, stair treads, lattice and bracings, replacing door locks, adjusting door frames, hinges, replace metal and wood doors and frames, install side lights, repairing and installing drywall, drop ceiling grids and tiles, repair and replace windows, sashes, screens, locks, replacing VCT Tile and carpeting, installing and repairing wall and base cabinets, hinges and locks.
  • Knowledge and experience with various aspects of painting and wall repairing.
  • Responsible for the purchase of equipment as needed to make repairs to apartments, offices, warehouse and purchase parts, tools, and supplies as needed for work order assignments.
  • Provide feedback as needed regarding work order assignments and other tasks completed by Facilities Management for tracking purposes.
  • Work with all staff assigned in CRT locations when needed.
  • Signing CRT vehicles “in and out” as needed to service and complete work orders at Agency sites as assigned.
  • Safeguard agency vehicles, tools, and other CRT properties always.
  • Removal of snow and ice from agency properties as needed.
  • Perform floor and carpet maintenance (repairs, shampooing, stripping, waxing, etc.)
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Picking up and returning rental equipment and vehicles as needed.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Required to work shifts to accommodate opening and closing of sites.
  • Attend and complete all mandatory training.
  • Always carry a cell phone to be easily reached in case of department emergency.
  • Uses proper safety techniques and complies with all organization safety procedures, including meeting periodically with the city inspectors to ensure facility compliance and checking buildings to ensure safety compliance such as fire but not limited to.
  • On call 24 hours a day in case of emergency, as Master keyholder.
  • Overtime as needed/assigned.
  • Schedule flexibility is a must – works Saturday, Sundays, and holidays when requested.
  • Master keyholder responsible for opening and closing agency worksites.
  • Keeping up to date on building repair methods by attending training as budget allows.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May fill in for Maintenance staff when needed.
