About The Position

Location: Scotts Bluff County Courthouse, Gering District: 12th Judicial District The Judicial Branch is a state-funded Branch of Government that offers medical/dental/vision, $20,000 free basic life insurance, state-matched 156% retirement plan, 13 paid holidays, earned paid vacation and sick leave, and more. This classification level works under general supervision and is responsible for spending a majority of time in the courtroom and providing courtroom related work such as capturing and recording verbatim proceedings of court and maintaining case information during and after proceedings. Responsibilities may include preparing documents for each court session (e.g. label exhibits, prepare journal entries); recording proceedings; schedule further court hearings. Must have knowledge of all case types; Traffic, criminal, small claims, civil, juvenile, probate, guardian, and conservatorship. May involve travel to the other courts. Overtime may be required if court proceedings are running behind or late.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; and 2 years of courtroom clerk experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

  • Positions in this class work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required, not to exceed 20 LBS.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors on-going case files, which includes: identifying appropriate forms to be completed or received; monitoring case status; issuing and processing warrants and civil suspensions; tracking and maintaining files; and/or, performing other related activities.
  • Maintains court calendar; schedules interpreters, transportation, prosecutors, defense council, and/or events.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.
