We welcome all candidates who are inspired by our work and mission. The Douglas County Circuit Court in Roseburg, Oregon, is hiring a Courtroom Clerk. In this role… Much of your time will be spent in a courtroom, logging court events in real time. You will record court events using specific software applications and a computer. You will troubleshoot equipment issues and communicate them immediately to the judge or judicial staff to ensure proceedings remain on the record. You will generate case documents and ready them for signature, and you will review documents for accuracy and completeness. You will be using a computer to enter information on electronic case records, including scheduling next appearances and scanning documents. You will also manage exhibits received during trial until turned over to the exhibit clerk or returned to the appropriate party. Attending meetings and serving on committees while taking and disbursing minutes will be part of your duties. You will have frequent interaction with law enforcement, judges, attorneys, parties to cases, and with many people who are facing challenging life circumstances or stressful situations. You will be expected to act professionally to all people whom you may encounter. You will use established policies and procedures to perform your work, while also ensuring statutory requirements are met. Most importantly, you will be providing access to justice services within our community and ensuring people's cases navigate through the court system in a timely manner, reflecting the most current information. Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) or more years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Possession of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent life or work experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience that supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Benefits

  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees [OR up to 99% of medical insurance premiums for part-time employees], including mental health coverage.
  • The hourly equivalent for this position is $27.49 - $42.65. [OR The annual salary for this position is $57,183 - $88,708.]

  • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job!
  • In this job profile, we offer candidates new to OJD up to the third step of the salary range, depending on experience.
  • You are potentially eligible for a 5% annual increase.
