About The Position

This CSO I position is assigned to the Adult Court Services Department, primarily writing presentence reports. This position requires knowledge of the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines. This Officer will be responsible for completing thorough in-depth presentence investigation reports assigned through the District Court. This will include reading KBI/REJIS/NCIC reports and requesting criminal records from other jurisdictions to determine a defendant’s criminal history. Duties include interviewing defendants and victims and making recommendations for probation requirements based on the information gained from those interviews. This position will require the completion of LSCMI, WRNA, and SASSI certification (within 1 year) to determine probation placement and SB 123 eligibility. Maintaining a close working relationship with district attorneys, defense attorneys and judges of the District Court is required. This Officer will need to have strong organizational skills, be able to communicate effectively, time management skills, and the ability to work well with others in a team setting.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in corrections, criminology, psychology, sociology, social work, or a closely related field.
  • All applicants are subject to a name-based criminal history background check.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and access legal means of transportation.
  • If employed by Court Services, the new employee must pass a fingerprint-based background check within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal court system
  • Ability to multitask and have excellent time management skills
  • Must be able to complete WRNA, LSCMI, and SASSI certification within 12 months of employment and maintain those certifications while employed
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and written
  • Proficient use of current computer programs and technology
  • Professional, courteous and cooperative in demeanor
